Five Frugal Things | all food, all day

I have an totally food-themed Five Frugal Factors these days. Prepared?

1. I made use of a stretched-out espresso filter to make Greek yogurt

You know how sometimes towards the stop of a espresso filter package, you get a single which is so stretched out, you know it is not likely to do the job incredibly effectively in your coffee maker?

That took place to me.

Sooo, I used it to drain some homemade yogurt to make Greek yogurt.

2. I rescued my celery

I experienced a bunch of celery from Hungry Harvest that I inadvertently set in the completely wrong section of the fridge.

And then I absolutely forgot about it!

It was a tiny wilty when I took it out yesterday early morning, but no worries.

I chopped the end off, trapped the full bunch into a mug of h2o:

wilty celery.

And I permit it crisp up.

3. I built some use-it-up pasta

Zoe was out with some pals a single evening, so I poked all-around in the fridge to see what desired to be applied up.

I cooked the previous handful of slices of bacon, and then browned leftover tortellini in the exact pan, alongside with some rotisserie rooster and some halved modest tomatoes.

pasta.

Then I lessened some half and fifty percent in the pan and poured it as a sauce above top, with some shredded Parmesan and crumbed bacon.

4. I designed a use-it-up serving of asparagus soup

I received some thick asparagus spears from Hungry Harvest, and actually, people are not my preferred. I like skinnier asparagus.

Sooo, I assumed, hmmm, a soup would be good for these.

I manufactured a little batch for myself just one night time although Zoe was at work, working with:

  • the asaparagus
  • a Parmesan rind
  • handmade hen broth
  • a leek from Hungry Harvest
  • the past of the 50 % and half
  • the last couple of pieces of bacon (left from when I’d created the above pasta)

5. I built a use-it-up pot of chicken noodle soup

Yesterday morning ahead of my clinicals, I produced a pot of soup utilizing:

  • some of the rescued celery
  • the very last handful of Hungry Harvest carrots
  • the previous Hungry Harvest leek
  • the previous of the rotisserie rooster
  • the final of a bag of noodles
  • handmade chicken broth from the freezer

two bowls of chicken soup.

And since I like mine creamy, I put a glug of cream into the bowl that I packed for my scientific meal.

Honorable mentions: I roasted the very last three sweet potatoes (Hungry Harvest of course), and I will possibly take in them as mashed sweet potatoes with fried eggs the following two mornings.

I also roasted the beets from my last Hungry Harvest box, and I could possibly have individuals on a salad.

In any case, following all of this, the produce drawer in my fridge is looking respectably vacant!

This put up is a remind of why I preserve getting containers from Hungry Harvest they truly enable me to consume more create. 🙂
