CRAFT MAKING A HOUSE A HOME

Build a Bear Craft

Beary Cute

This Build a Bear craft is a very easy and creative project to do.  My 3 year old had a lot of fun tracing the bear stencil onto his bag and decorating his bear.  He decided that he wanted to make one for his baby brother so time permitting he wasn’t able to do as much decorating as he could have but there are truly no limits to how detailed this can go.

Here is how you can make your very own Build a Bear at home.  First, trace the bear stencil onto the bag with the bears head up towards the opening.  Next, draw a face onto the bear attaching his googly eyes onto the bag.  Then cutout clothing from the paper/fabric or use your artistic skills and drawn on your own designs.  Maybe your bear is a fireman or maybe she is a hard working mommy.  This is meant to be a creative project so there truly are no limits to how detailed this can go.  When finished decorating, wad up some old newspaper and stuff the bear mostly full.  After stuffing the bag, fold over the top edge of the paper bag and seal shut.  I would advise using tape or glue as staples can be sharp.

 Supplies Needed:

Print this Bear Stencil and trace around it to create the outline on your paper bag or cut it out and glue/tape it on the bag to create your Build a Bear

  • paper bag
  • old newspaper
  • safety scissors for little ones
  • bear stencil (click on picture)
  • markers/colors
  • googly eyes
  • glue/tape
  • stick on accessories
  • scraps of cloth (optional)
  • scrapbook paper (optional)
  • clear packing tape to seal the deal
  • your imagination (necessary)

Updated 03/04/2014:  In hindsight I should have used clear packing tape as a laminate over the entire front of the bag to seal down all loose articles because Baby Brother pulled off all of the buttons as soon as he got his hands on these little bears. After using the aforementioned tape I managed to mend the bear and make it nearly impossible for the little guy to destroy again.
I think clear packing tape might be a mother’s best friend when it comes to siblings!
